On this day in 1975, the infamous American labor leader Jimmy Riddle Hoffa disappeared in Detroit, Michigan, never to be found.  As president of America’s largest union, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Hoffa committed several crimes, including jury tampering, mail fraud and bribery, for which he spent four years in prison. He was pardoned by President Richard Nixon in 1971.
Many believe that Hoffa was the victim of Mafia violence; however, the true cause of his death remains unknown.
